Trupa Pink Floyd a reușit performanța de a intra cu „The Endless River” (un tribut adus fostului claviaturist Rick Wright, decedat în 2008 de cancer), cel mai recent (lansat în 10 noiembrie) și ultim album (după afirmațiile componenților, potrivit Reuters), direct pe locul I în Marea Britanie.
Evenimentul de duminică, 16 noiembrie 2014, s-a produs la 19 ani de la precedenta performanță similară înregistrată de discul Pulse în 1995, susține Reuters. Acesta este al 6-lea LP al formației care ajunge pe locul I în Insulă.
Aceeași agenție de presă a precizat că datele înregistrate de Official Charts Company arată că săptămâna trecută au fost vândute 139000 de exemplare.
Peste Ocean, Keith Caulfield (director asociat pentru topuri și vânzări) scrie în Billboard că albumul este posibil să intre în top 10 (ediția din 19 noiembrie), vânzările estimate fiind de 150000 de exemplare. El mai susține că este primul album de studio al grupului de la „The Division Bell”, lansat în 1994 și intrat direct pe locul I, că este preponderent instrumental și conține piese care n-au intrat pe Bell.
Dar să vedem ce scrie despre album chiar în siteul formației:
„The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions, when David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason played freely together at Britannia Row and Astoria studios. This was the first time they had done so since the ‘Wish You Were Here’ sessions in the seventies. Those sessions resulted in The Division Bell, the band’s last studio album.
In 2013 David Gilmour and Nick Mason revisited the music from those sessions and decided that the tracks should be made available as part of the Pink Floyd repertoire. It would be the last time the three of them would be heard together. The band have spent the last year recording and upgrading the music, using the advantages of modern studio technology to create The Endless River.
The Endless River is a tribute to Rick Wright, whose keyboards are at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. It is a mainly instrumental album with one song, ‘Louder Than Words’, (with new lyrics by novelist Polly Samson), arranged across four sides and produced by David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and Andy Jackson.
‘Louder Than Words’, the new song by Pink Floyd, had its first radio play on BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans show (9 October).
‘Louder Than Words’ is performed by Pink Floyd. Taken from David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason’s 1993 Division Bell sessions it has new lyrics by writer and Division Bell lyricist Polly Samson (n. silpres.info – soția lui Gilmour).
David Gilmour said: "The music for Louder Than Words is from those final sessions, the three of us playing together on the houseboat Astoria with Rick’s idiosyncratic keyboards reminding me now that you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. At the start of the album I asked Polly [Samson] to write the lyrics. She felt that what I played her didn’t need words, that hearing us play was more interesting. In the end she wrote just this one, which expresses, beautifully I think, the way the three of us, me, Nick and Rick have something when we play together, that has a magic that is louder than words".

Pe lângă varianta descărcabilă de la iTunes și Amazon, din siteul formației pot (teoretic) fi cumpărate variantele fizice: CD – 14,99 € (momentan este „out of stock”), dublu LP – 39,99 € (momentan – „out of stock”), CD/DVD Deluxe – 27,99 € (momentan – firește – „out of stock”) și CD/Blu-Ray Deluxe – 31,99 € (ghinion! „Out of stock”). În același magazin mai găsiți tricouri promoționale: 51,99 € – cu mâneci lungi, 22,99 € – cu mâneci scurte. Tricouri (încă) mai sunt, dar cu mâneci scurte mai sunt doar două mărimi. Așa le trebuie, dacă n-au trăit în comunism! Atunci ar fi știut „să se dea numai câte una, să ajungă la toată lumea!”
Situația mi-a adus aminte de o întâmplare din vremea lui Pingelică.
Marius Pop, talentatul chitarist jazz-rock al cărui tată este celebrul chitarist rock Călin Pop, s-a dus la alimentară cu bunică-sa, iar când s-a întors, puștiul de vreo 5 anișori i-a zis mamei lui, Raluca: „Mami, tanti aia (n.r. vânzătoarea) a zis: n-avem, n-avem, n-avem!” Întâmplarea a fost povestită la vremea respectivă chiar de Raluca.
