Zilele trecute două incidente au avut ca protagoniști doi dintre cicliștii profesioniști.

În primul, cel al cărui erou involuntar a fost columbianul Darwin Atapuma, au fost implicați doi tâlhari, care l-au oprit în timp ce se antrena în țara sa. Cei doi – prinși între timp de poliție – au vrut să-i fure bicicleta, iar în urma altercației biciclistul echipe BMC s-a ales cu răni de cuțit la brațul stâng. Din cauza acestora, în următoarele 10 zile se va antrena doar în sală.

În cazul lui Vincenzo Nibali relatările sunt confuze. Cert este că a fost oprit de un echipaj al Poliției Forestiere după ce împreună cu fratele lui și alți doi bicicliști au intrat pe un drum din Sicilia blocat de poliție din cauza gheții. Potrivit Cyclingnews, Nibali spune că i s-au cerut actele: «„I was doing a specific job and I was very focused”, he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. A police car came up and stopped him. „They asked for my identification documents. I explained what we were doing. I do not want any privileges.” Nibali was allowed to continue on.» Poliția zice, însă, că nu. S-a mai spus că după ce a fost legitimat a fost lăsat să continue drumul, lucru contrazis de poliție: «„If Nibali had fallen, the blame would have been placed on the Forestry Corps and who knows how many polemics that would have caused, given that we’re talking about a world-famous champion”, a spokesperson for the Forestry Corps told Il Giornale di Sicilia.

The statement also stressed that Nibali had not been asked to present identity documents and added that he would be welcome on the climb in future – provided the conditions allow. „We could even provide him with an escort during his climbs, for us it would be an honour. But when it’s a matter of public safety, we can’t provide a dispensation.”»
