Comitetul Olimpic Național Italian l-a suspendat pe ciclistul Alessandro Ballan (în foto, când a devenit campion mondial în 2008) pentru 2 ani din cauza unui tratament cu ozon – care este interzis de Codul Agenției Mondiale Antidoping – făcut în 2009 (când era la Lampre), suspendare în urma căreia echipa BMC l-a concediat și i-a înlăturat fotografia din siteul echipei.

Potrivit Cyclingnews, care citează Gazzetta dello Sport, Ballan recunoaște că a greșit, dar spune că a urmat tratamentul în scop terapeutic, nu pentru a-și îmbunătăți performanțele: «"I had expected more understanding from the judges," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I made a minor error and was negligent. But the price to pay is too high.
